but.....the download links are Rapidshare and the dl speeds have been really slow for the past week. I bought an RS premium account and even with a download manager, I'm getting 2kb/s speeds. Problem started a week ago. Prior to that it was averaging 180 to 200 kb/s
Anyone else having the same problem ?

Convert Rapidshare Server To IP
if you are using IDM to manage your rapidshare download, change the Sites Login setting..
in the server path instead of typing http://rapidshare.com, change it by replacing it with *. It should look like this http://*
if you not doing this you have to add all IP server you have one by one to allow IDM download the rapidshare files

I just started to use one as I needed to download lot of files from RS/hotfile/...
I started with Mdownloader. I think it's still "too" young and lack lot of features + what really put me off is that it is using 30% CPU on my quad core @ 3.6GHz !!! Even when waiting for the files to be ready to download, it uses ~20% !!!
So I finally switched to jdownloader and it is great. Too bad the captcha recognizer does not work, but apart from that it is great. There is an autoconfiguration feature which works with some routers and allows to renew the router IP when necessary when you the website prevents you from downloading because your IP has already downloaded too much. And most important, it use very little CPU.
@L-plate: Rapidshare (free) has been on and off recently. Sometimes I'll get 100 KB/s (800 kbps) and sometime I'll get less than 10 KB/s :P
What ISP do you use ? Maybe it's your ISP throttling the speed ?

I'm not even on Free. I bought a premium rapidshare account. It was fast until about Monday last week. Speeds just dropped to a crawl until Moaster's help got me back in gear. What a sad state of affairs with TM-net

This is not a download manager made especially for file hosting like RS/hotfile/... , isn't it ? If I'm not mistaken, it is just a "regular" download manager.
If I'm right, you should give a try to jDownloader. It is purposely designed for all this file hosting websites. You just give the the rapidshare download link, and it automatically do the necessary operations for the file to be downloaded (ie: it waits for the file to be ready for free accounts, it queues several files and waits for one to finish before to download the next one since for free accounts you can download only once at a time, ...). I think it is particularly made to overcome the limitations of the free accounts, but it is also designed to use the advantages of premium accounts.
EDIT: hmm I just read about the trick to bypass the throttling and unfortunately it does not work (yet) in jdownloader. So I guess you are better off with Internet Download manager.
