This article is an insight based on seasons of racing in MSR by Mu'az Zakaria. This article will also uncover the reasons to most of the race mistakes and race crashes in MSR.

Driving in a race is poles apart from driving in practice. Failure to differentiate and comprehend between practice and race can be emotionally depressing as success in racing is the rate of understanding of how to properly race instead of simple understanding of how to go quick around a track.
Basic form of driving around a race track is by circulating it in an ideal manner. However this can’t be done on all occasions in a race. Let’s examine the situation where drivers may be forced out of an ideal line and ideal braking zones:

1. Lining up the grid to start the race
2. Heading into turn1 and most probably the whole first lap of the race.
3. Going into the pit and out of the pit
4. Defending positions
5. Lapping back markers
6. Back markers giving way
7. Towing trains of cars
8. Overtaking on the inside
9. Overtaking on the outside

There are many examples that sets your practice to just one element of many to be successful and safe comes the race day. However, while practice is a big chunk of race success it’s compulsory to know how to race.

One of the ways to practice is to simulate what will happen in the races. It’s a good to practice racing off ideal lines sometimes and examine how much grip available on the outside and the inside of a turn. When a car is off an ideal line on the inside of a turn, braking zones shifted further back. As a result, driver has to back off the throttle pedal early and gradually apply the threshold braking.
