Friday, 30 January 2009 00:00

The inaugural Malaysian Sim Racer F1 Season kicks off with a splashing start as 22 drivers line-up on the grid after qualifying for the first time. Since the end of Season 7, drivers were already advice by the League Admins regarding Season 8 choice of mod; which is the newly released CDTP F1 2006 which meant the 2 months break allowed drivers to adapt towards driving the challenging F1 modeled machines. Nazirull, who was the Season Champion for Season 7, started his Season 8 campaign perfectly as he managed to clinch the win of the opening season’s race at Albert Park Circuit, Australia.

Starting from pole, Nazirull however didn’t manage to get off the line perfectly and was passed by Hafiz, Muaz and Sheikh, who were battling with each other for the lead. Upon reaching turn 2, the scrap between the three drivers were even closer and had witnessed newcomer rookie, Sheikh banging wheels with race favourite Muaz who was the Season 1 Champion; in attempt to avoid from crashing into Hafiz. Nevertheles, the experienced Muaz was cunning enough to spot the rookie’s mistake and had overtook him on lap 5 to continue his pursuit on Hafiz who was currently running 1st. However, his race ended on the 25th lap after an accident involving him and Arnaud.

On the 19th lap, Nazirull who was climbing up the ladder due to his unimpressive start; clearly was determined to catch the front runners. After Muaz had made his first pit stop, Nazirull had taken the lead from Muaz and had continue his drive flawlessly towards the chequred flag with a total time of 1H:27M:42.741S, finishing 1 lap ahead of second place man, Kenny and Season 8 rookie, Sheikh, who also managed to join the podium for the very first time. Out of the 22 starts only 8 drivers managed to reach the checkered flag. Retirements saw a mixed of balance between crashes and reliability problems which is looking to be reduced as the season progressed.
