Round 2 – Malaysian GP
Tuesday, 10 February 2009 00:00

Round 2 of the Malaysian Sim Racers Season 8 continues at Sepang with 19 drivers starting the race behind pole leader Muaz. The season 1 champ managed to snatch pole ahead of Albert Park winner Nazirull who had a blundering start when he accidentally hit the pitlane speed limiter after the lights went off and ended up 17th by the first lap.

Muaz, who had led almost all of the laps during the race, was equally pleased the way it turned around as he wasn’t sure which tyre to choose for the 57 lap race even after the Sprint 15 minutes Qualifying session. “It was a great race, however the pole came as a surprise. In the sprint race, I still had not finalize which setup I would use as the 5 Hot compound is quite slippery to be used during the race in order to push safely. I opted with 6 Hot for the race and managed to achieve consistent pace although it wasn’t as quick as I would want it.”

Second place man, Faizi, who qualified third behind Nazirull was having a similar run out with Muaz as his evening was perfect and had no problems whatsoever. “I would pretty much happy to finish the race and a podium finish would make me even happier. I had a great setup prior to the race, but I wasn’t sure about it and by the Top 6 Pole qualifying session, I had tweaked the setup and it certainly proved to be a mistake, as the car felt sluggish and wasn’t as responsive as I would hope for during the race. Nevertheless the evening was sweet and at the same time, driving with an injured hand, my first podium for Season 8 helps to dissolve my disappointment at Melbourne’s race.

Nazirull who fought his way back for the podium was pretty much happy with his final podium spot result. What should have been a clean second place, had in a blink of an eye, change to a struggle weekend as he was dropped to 17th place during the start. “Night full of mistakes I must say. Spun during the formation lap of the Sprint Race Qualifying  almost made Kenny and Sheikh collided with me. I had also spun various times and ended up in the kitty litter while catching Yazid and Ahmad. Again, the pitlane speed limiter incident where I had accidentally disengaged the speed limiter button while exiting pit on my second stop. Slapped with stop n go penalty, it was just silly mistakes over another.”
